A Chicago woman may have set a dubious automotive record. Jennifer
Fitzgerald owes more than $105,000 in parking tickets, according to
court records.
Parking officials say it may be the highest penalty on record.
A 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo
worth about $600 registered to Fitzgerald was left in an employee
parking lot at Chicago's O'Hare Airport for more than three years, where
it accumulated tickets for being a "hazardous dilapidated vehicle" with
cracked windows, and being parked in a city lot for more than 30 days.
The website www.theexpiredmeter.com first uncovered the record fine. Traffic expert Mike Brockway, who runs the website, said police should have towed the car after 30 days, per city ordinances.
Fitzgerald declined interview requests, but told MyFoxChicago that an
ex-boyfriend who worked for United Airlines had registered the car in
her name without her knowledge. Maybe she should own up to it anyway. It
could be her only chance to get into the Guinness Book of World
Records.
