For a singer who just made the Top 5 on the charts with her debut single, Jana Kramer
shouldn't be too worried about her follow-up, "Whiskey." The tune,
which fans of the actress-singer first heard on her TV show "One Tree
Hill," debuted at 48 on the Country Aircheck/MediaBase chart on Nov. 12,
and has already risen to 44. However, the songstress isn't letting the
success of "Why Ya Wanna" go to her head.
"I'm nervous about the new single, but excited at the same time. I just hope it does good," she
tells Billboard
magazine. "I'm just trying to stay true to what I love. I hope this
continues to show my traditional side. I want to keep going out on tour,
meeting fans and having my songs speak to them. That's why I wanted to
[release] this in the beginning."
The triumph of the year wasn't just breaking the barrier of country
radio. The Michigan native also had the opportunity to present at the
CMA Awards last month.
"Obviously they saw that I had accomplished something or they wouldn't
have had me on the show," Jana admits. "You can kind of pat yourself on
the back for the first time. I remember thinking, 'I'm having a
conversation with Miranda Lambert in the bathroom. This is so cool.' Getting to talk with Tim [McGraw], Faith [Hill], or Reba [McEntire],
and them actually knowing who I am, I thought, 'Is this serious? I grew
up listening to you, and now we're friends?' It's such an unbelievable
feeling."
Next on the singer-songwriter's docket is a performance at Bonfire Jam
in Jay, Fla., tonight (Dec. 7). See more of her tour dates
